Southern Writers Onstage: Women Black and White series
This series of readings/performances tells the story of the Southern American woman – black and white – through the writings of Southern American women. University of Georgia professor Valerie Boyd presents Alice Walker‘s story “Nineteen Fifty-Five,” which imagines what might have occurred after Elvis Presley’s manager bought out Big Mama Thornton’s song “Hound Dog.” Southern Writers Onstage was developed by Dr. Pearl McHaney of Georgia State University.
This event is supported by a grant from Georgia Humanities.
