The Georgia Humanities Council’s Governor’s Award program recognizes and celebrates local community members who are working to increase the understanding and appreciation of the humanities in Georgia. At the Governor’s Awards program hundreds of policymakers, business leaders and representatives of cultural organizations from across Georgia gather to celebrate the humanities.

The Awards recognize people and organizations doing exemplary work in the humanities and encourages them to serve as models for others across the state. Recipients are nominated by the public, reviewed by a committee of the Georgia Humanities Council Board, and selected ultimately by the Governor. Presentations occur at a luncheon at the Old Georgia Railroad Freight Depot in downtown Atlanta.
